“Little Changes” {review and giveaway}

Let me start by saying this is a book review. WAIT! STOP!! Keep reading! If you have never read a single post I've ever written, or you're not big into reading (like me), let this be one post to read. Bookmark it and come back. It's that important!

With that said….when I heard Kristi Marsh was looking for bloggers to review her book, "Little Changes: Tales from a Reluctant Home Eco-Momics Pioneer," I immediately emailed her. I am not a big book reader because my time is consumed by two young children, but Kristi said she was patient and wanted me to review the book. I am so thankful to Kristi because this is the most eye opening book I've ever read. The vast amount of information that she put into this book is amazing. You MUST read it. Every American MUST read it. What I've learned since I began reading this book is simply astounding.

Kristi Marsh was faced with breast cancer at a young age. She talks about chemotherapy and all of the trials she faced with this diagnosis. Then, as she was recovering and trying to make better choices for her own body, she was astounded by what she found. Through lots and lots of research, she found that there is basically no regulation on any ingredients in the cosmetics made in America. Chemicals that have no business being in our cosmetics, and chemical combinations that might not even have been tested, are there and they don't have to even be labeled appropriately. And it doesn't stop at cosmetics. Soaps, perfumes, shaving cream, and the lotion we slather on our kids to "protect" them likely contain yucky, unecessary stuff. And that's just it, if there are good alternatives, why are companies still using the bad stuff?

Throughout the book, Kristi shares her journey with tackling these questions and working to make little changes in her household. She offers many suggestions on how we can make little changes to choose wiser in our lives. As she says on her website, "Everyone has a different pace; any movement forward is worth celebrating." The book is filled with resources to help you make little changes in your life, and it does NOT have to be difficult or painful!

I could go on and on about the information I gleaned from "Little Changes," but you'd be much better off to read what Kristi has to say. She's done the research. She's made the little changes in her life. She also has made it her mission to teach everyone about what she has learned. This isn't about being a "food snob" who buys only organic produce, or a rich celebrity who has to have the top stuff, because honestly, the top stuff isn't necessarily the best stuff. (The expensive blue spray we use to clean our windows isn't the best stuff. It's expensive, yes, but it's not the best. Kristi has a brilliant, low cost alternative in the book! ;) She also talks about ways to save while you're making your little changes to make your family healthier, which is always a bonus!

Enough of me going on and on about this amazing book. You need to read it now. Your life could possibly be changed for the better. It will open your eyes and make you actually think about the little changes you can easily make in your life!
